A question you may have as a guitar player is "what really makes Ska~tick?" or.."What do ska guitar players play?" In otherwords, what are the elements of Ska guitar. One very important element of ska guitar is the 2 string chording. Much Ska guitar consist of major and minor chords as well as 5th chords (powerchords), and often consist of simple yet effective strumming patterns, using the B and small E string (The 2 smallest strings). The next series of free lessons to follow will focus on the basic elements of Ska guitar. The chords that are used, as well as their formulas, strumming and muting techniques. Beginning with this lesson, for now just focus on becomming familiar with the shapes, names and fingerings of these Ska guitar chords.
