Lit * My Own Worst Enemy * Guitar Solo
This lesson is a good study of how "octaves" can be
used for creating and composing a guitar solo.
Guitarist Jimi Hendrix was famous for his use of
"octaves"...see below. The guitar solo for My Own
Worst Enemy is based upon ocatves.
As a review, an "octave" is the same note played at
a higher pitch, as shown in example #1 below.
Example #1
E e octave A a octave
e :-------------------------------------------------|
B :-------------------------------------------------|
G :-------9----------------------14-----------------|
D :-------------------------------------------------|
A :-7---------------------12------------------------|
E :-------------------------------------------------|
Example #2 * Jimi Hendrix * Purple Haze
Octave fills before guitar solo
octaves...... single played notes
s s s
e :-------------------------------------------------|
B :---------------------8--------8------------------|
G :-9--11-9--7--------7--------7--------------------|
D :---------------7-9------7-9----------------------|
A :-7--9--7--5--------------------------------------|
E :-------------------------------------------------|
To obtain a good octave sound, when fretting the note's
for example on the A string, let your frethand index
finger lightly touch and "mute" the D string so that
the only notes you hear while playing are the notes
on the A string and G string.
This is the guitar solo in it's entirety to "Lit's"
hit song "My Own Worst Enemy".

Lyrics:
Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk?
I didn't mean to call you that;
I can't remember what was said or what you threw at me
Please tell me,Please tell me why?
My car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
And you're gone gone
It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy,
Cuz every now and then I kick the living sh*t out of me
The smoke alarm is going off when there's a cigarette
Still burning
Please tell me why
My car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
And you're gone gone
Please tell me why
My car is in the front yard
And I'm sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy
Cuz every now and then I kick the living sh*t out of me
Can we forget about the the things I said when I was drunk
I didn't mean to call you that
