Lead Guitar Licks Lesson For 24 Fret Guitar

As a follow up to the previous lesson which taught how to play guitar scales for a 24 fret guitar, this lesson gives examples and teaches lead guitar solo licks that are derived from the scales that can be played on a 24 fret guitar. Many times when a player is first learning scales, a common question is, "Ok...now that I learned these scales, what do I do with them or how may they be applied" ? To answer that question correctly is near like answering a trick question. As the use of guitar scales may be considered limitless. As scales are related to chords as well as other scales, when adding and applying theory when learning, transcribing, or composing a song, the list of options could seem as if they will never end. One good practice method is to become familiar with the sound of each scale and their most common applications to which style of music that they are often applied. For example: When playing country lead guitar, often the most common choice of scales would include Pentatonic or Diatonic Major. When playing Rock, Blues or Heavy Metal guitar a common choice would lean twoards Pentatonic and Diatonic Minor scales.Keeping in mind that often all forms of music may consist of a combination of many scales. Another good method is to begin adding the "guitar techniques" like hammer-on's, pull-off's, slides, etc... to the scales, which will save time using the guitar pick, allow you to gain speed and finesse and control. The possibilities here may also seem endless. Yet developing a basic understanding of where these techniques are most common applied, can be a most ... valuable tool. This lesson is focused on the most basic of demonstrations to help teach you how some of these guitar techniques may be applied to develop and begin learning how to play lead guitar. Although the lead guitar licks taught in this lesson are titled with a basic description of what type of sound they may develop, they may also be applied to many other playing styles when playing the guitar. It's also a good idea to experiment using guitar effect pedals to demonstrate the wide and seemingly also endless variety of sounds. Basic good choices among effect pedals include wah-wah, flanger, chours, phaser, echo or delay as well as the option of using distortion, which will provide a rock, heavy metal, grunge sound.
