A common question among guitarist is how to combine scales
and arpeggios in relation to heavy metal music.
Most commonly, "minor" scales and arpeggios are choosen
among heavy metal guitarist as they provide a darker sound
as oppossed to major scales and major arpeggios.
Scales and arpeggios may be played in any combination, and
by adding common guitar techniques such as slide, hammer-on,
pull-off, string bends, etc... allowing you to compose and
create your own original guitar licks.
3 common choice's of scales and arpeggios that are played in
combination that create a "Yngwie Malmsteen" type heavy metal
sound, include the pentatonic minor scale, the minor arpeggio,
and the harmonic minor scale reviewed as example's 1,2,and 3
below.
