Diminished Scales
C Diminished
There are three diminished scales, each scale having four
key centers, all 3 of which are determined by the 1st,
3rd, 5th and 7th notes of the scale. For example, the dim-
ished scales when taught in the key of C, Eb, Gb, and A
all share the same notes, therefore the 3 scales alone of
C, C# and D can cover all 12 keys. This lesson teaches the
C diminished scale. Diminished scales contain nine notes,
dividing the octave into eight intervals. This scale is
also referred to a "symemetric" scale.
