Cheap Trick Surrender
This is a great song for a rhythm guitarist to practice
timing, as the majority of chords are strummed in 4's.
The count being 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and, played at a
moderately fast tempo. Part 1 teaches the intro. Part 2
teaches the verse's where the strumming begins the count.
Timing is considered one of the most important tools for
all musicians. The best method of practice for timing
(aside from using a metronome or drum machine), is to
use your built in rhythm meter, your foot. If you are new
to this, this may seem difficult at first. A good method
to begin this practie is to simply begin strumming as
you count 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 as shown in part 2. The next step
is to coordinate "foot tapping" with "strumming". An easy
explanation of this is to realize that when you count,
that your foot is tapped "down" on the number(s) and then
raised on the word (or symbol &=and). For example:
Counting: 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &

Foot Tapping: down up down up down up down up
The next step in this procedure is to coordinate the pick-
hand while strumming, with the foot tapping technique. It
is good advice to say, that this technique is worth paying
for a few lessons from your local music teacher ,as once
again, "timing" is one of the most valuable tools for all
musicians.
