New Old Lady Blues Part 2
Shown below are the actual riffs which demonstrate the
most common order of arrangement. Here you can clearly
see that the bass line for "New Old Lady Blues" follows
the order as did the 3 scale progression. Let's review.
E,A,E, B,A,E. Good advice that applies to learning all
forms of music in general, wether it be a scale, chord,
or a song, would also be to add, that learning and
understanding is sometimes only half of what you "need"
in your learning toolbox. As "hearing" what you are
attempting to learn is often the most valued tool.

Comments From Bob Daisley
I remember when we were putting the "Hoochies" album together,
I arrived at the session one day and the drummer, Rob Grosser,
mentioned that we needed a song with a certain feel.
I thought yeah, you're right and began playing the riff for
"New Old-lady". I think in a song like that with fairly sparce
guitar parts that just "stab" the beat, it's important to
stay pretty disciplined and stick to the riff without changing
it or varying it too much to hold the song together.
To me that riff is a little reminiscent of the Zeppelin song
"Moby Dick" but it wasn't intended that way and is a lot less
of a "nick" (stolen/borrowed) than some of the stuff they got
away with(ha !).
As with most of the tracks on that album, I used a Hofner
"Beatle" bass through a 1969 50W Marshall head and 4x10 cab
on "New Old-lady" and thought/think the sound fits it very
well.
I've been told recently that the blues artist "Guitar Shorty"
has recorded that song for his next album which makes me very
pleased and proud.
Many thanks to all that read this and I hope you enjoy the
song and playing it too.
Regards,
Bob
