New Old lady Blues

This lesson is focused on building bass riffs for blues.
It's important for a blues bassist to learn and see an
outlined pattern to follow. This will allow you see and
understand "how" a 3 scale progression works and may be
used to begin building bass riffs.. When first learning
to play bass riffs, it's a good idea for you to stick to
these guidelines, before you attempt any improvising.

Part 1 of this lesson will focus on the common arrangment
of which a 3 scale progression is played when creating this
basic outline.

                 Basic Outline Part 1

The basic outline is derived using the first, fourth and
fifth intervals, which are taken from the key of any given
major scale. These 3 notes are the tonic notes which allow
you to build a scale for each tonic note. For example:
E tonic note = E scale, A tonic note = A scale, and B tonic
note = B scale. For example, see E major scale below.

E Major Scale 1, 4, 5 Intervals

   E F# G# A B C# D# E E A B
G :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|
D :-----------------|---------1---2---|-----------------|
A :--------------0--|--2---4----------|------0---2------|
E :-0---2---4-------|-----------------|-0---------------|

When building a basic outline you would choose these 3 notes.
E,A,B, as the foundation to build from. Using these 3 notes
you could choose to build an outline using major or minor
(or other) scales. The song "New Old Lady Blues" is based
on pentatonic minor scales.
Now let's look at the actual pentatonic scales to be used to
create this basic outline.

   E Pentatonic A Pentatonic B Pentatonic
    E G A B D E A C D E G A B D E F# A B
G :-----------------|-----------------|-----------------|
D :-----------------|---------5-7-----|------------7-9--|
A :---------5-7-----|-----5-7---------|------7-9--------|
E :-0-3-5-7---------|-5-8-------------|-7-10------------|

Part 2 / Most Common Arrangement

The most common arrangement of this basic outline would be
to play the scales in this order. E,A,E, B,A,E.
Let's move on to the actual bass riffs from "New Old Lady Blues"
for a further and more detailed explanation.
