Guitar Barre Chords

G Shaped Barre Chords

				
The G shaped barre chord is another moveable form
of a guitar chord that will allow you to change 
chords without having to change fingerings. The
index finger barres (holds down and frets) the notes
played on the B and G and D stings, while the ring
finger is placed on the A string, the pinky finger is 
then placed on the large E string as indicated below, 
showing the chord G# major.

Here's what this chord looks like when written in 
tablature.

The sound that is altered from standard and traditonal
chord positions is dramatic. Try comparing the standard
position for D major chord (example #1 below) to the 
G shaped D major barre chord, shown as example #2.

How These Chords Are Moveable
The "roote note" is the first note played that determines
the letter name of the chord. For example:

    G# = G# major chord     A = A major chord

E :--4------------------------5---------------------|

When changing chords from G# to A, simply slide your
frethand up 1 fret.
