The Mad Axeman by Michael Schenkar
Without a doubt, one of my all time favorite guitarist.
Michael was once offered the job as the replacement for
the late Randy Rhoads, as Ozzy's guitarist. It was said
that Michael wanted a "Kings Ransom" for the job. His
early recordings include songs with the band UFO. One
of may favorite solos is from the song " Too Hot Too-
Handle". His other recordings go as far back as early
recordings with his brother Rudolph, rhythm guitarist of
"The Scorpions". Michael is famous for his wild neck bending
sound, and has been known to break many necks on his Flying
V-s performing this technique. This particular lick is from
the song "The Mad Axeman".

E Spanish Phrygian
This is a lick from the classical scale E Spanish Phrygian.
This lick sounds good on acoustic, or electric (using distortion).
If you have a guitar that has a whammy bar, try adding a
whammy dive on the last note, the open E string.

E Spanish Phrygian ...Continued
This lick can basically be referred to as a ladder riff.
This is commonly known as ascending in 3rds, which means
playing a scale from the first note to the 3rd note, and
so on. This exercise provides a very classical spanish
sound.

E Spanish Phrygian / Adding Trills
I have found the best way to increase speed on playing
trills in this mode, is to begin slowly learning first
which frets to play. The fingerings are the most valuable
tool for this lick. I recommend that you break away from
the one finger per fret rule, as when playing scales, and
use the index finger for the lead note, followed by the
middle finger.

E Spanish Phrygian Metal Sound
This is a good lick for a heavy metal sound. If you have
a guitar with a whammy bar, try adding a downward bend on
the last note open E.
